GHANA: Multi-faith leaders break ground on new health center
Baakoniaba Community Faith Alliance joined traditional leaders and local government officials on November 28, 2025, to break ground on a new health center for their community in the Sunyani District. Muslim and Christian residents in Baakoniaba have been organizing together for more than a year to unify their community and identify pressing needs. After listening to hundreds of their neighbors, these grassroots leaders identified three priorities: a community center, a health clinic, and improvement to the access road to the community. After securing support from traditional authorities, they negotiated an agreement with the local municipal assembly to fund a new health clinic.
The efforts of the Baakoniaba Faith Alliance are part of a national initiative across 10 regions and more than 50 communities to develop grassroots leadership and public demand for investment in development. Ghana is rich in natural and human resources, yet less than 5% of the country’s revenue is allocated to local development priorities. Muslim and Christian leaders from the most neglected, least invested-in communities in Ghana are uniting to change that reality, building a grassroots movement to transform Ghana from the bottom up.
On December 3, 2025, Alhaji Issah A. Nasagri, the Administrator of the Bono Regional Chief Imam and Coordinator of the Bono Regional FAITH in Ghana Alliance, tragically passed away. Alhaki Issah was a driving force behind multi-faith community organizing in the Bono region and played a critical role in training and coaching the Baakoniaba leaders. His tireless commitment to leadership development and community empowerment will live on in the efforts by Ghanaians to transform their communities and country. May his soul rest in peace.
