HAITI: Irrigation Equipment Enables Small-Holder Farmers to Alleviate Hunger

In 2023, OPODHA launched its “We Plant Today, So We Can Feed Our Families Tomorrow” campaign after listening to more than 4,000 smallholder farmers. In 2025, OPODHA used the final $50,000 in funding from the Inter-American Foundation to purchase irrigation systems for 22 communities.Small holder farmers in Haiti win irrigation equipment

The St. Barnabas Agricultural Center helped farmers set up and learn to use the systems, which are already boosting crop yields. A total of 2,683 smallholder farmers in 27 communities are working with OPODHA to farm collectively. They’re sharing access to high-quality seeds through OPODHA’s Seed Bank.

In December 2025, OPODHA met with the Haiti Director of the Inter-American Development Bank (BID) to press BID to incorporate local community priorities in their large-scale investments in North and Northeast Haiti. BID’s Haiti Director
agreed to attend a community meeting with OPODHA leaders in February to hear their proposals to help farmers adapt to drought and climate change through seeds, tools, irrigation, locally trained agronomists, and better roads to bring crops to market.
