Rwanda: New organizing effort launched in Mushikili
Following July training sessions, leaders in Mushikili conducted a listening campaign that identified a critical need: building a road to bring crops to market. Without waiting for government action, community members began construction themselves. As new leader Gasana said, “We cannot wait for anyone else to solve our problems. We are suffering because of the rough road, and we must take ownership to bring our crops to market.”Namibia: Partnering with schools to protect the environment
Faith in Namibia organizer Rev. Colin Gertze has partnered with JTL Beukes Primary School to organize faculty, parents, and students in repairing school facilities and planting trees. These efforts form part of a 2025 program for environmental protection and climate change mitigation. Rev. Colin noted the community’s inspiring ownership: “People are not waiting for the government to solve their problems.”

Tanzania: Faith leaders embrace organizing as an antidote to dependency
During a focus group, Anglican Bishop Godfrey (Muleba) and Lutheran Pastor Oscar Samuel (Ngara) shared how their congregations are shedding a “dependency syndrome” and developing a vision for their future. Practically, leaders are already constructing a school and researching the potential impact of a proposed foreign-owned mining enterprise in their community. |
