Haitian families face deportation if TPS expires
Jean Mirvil directs a school in Saint-Marc, Haiti, and chairs the board of OPODHA. He had to flee his school as gang violence spread north from Port-au-Prince.
“I had to leave my students behind because violence is moving closer every day. Deporting Haitian TPS holders will only make this worse. I worry for my students in Haiti. I worry for my neighbors in New York. I worry for our organizers fighting for democracy.”
On February 3, the Trump Administration plans to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti, putting nearly 350,000 Haitian immigrants at risk of detention and deportation.
Sending people back now would mean sending them into a country with no functioning national government, widespread gang control, and mass hunger. Deportations are already destabilizing northern Haiti, where OPODHA is organizing for sustainable agriculture, water, and democratic elections.
➡️ Tell Congress to protect Haitian families — Extend TPS
We are also organizing a faith-based rally in Springfield, Ohio, on February 2. Details coming soon.
