Power Training – Understanding the Power Dynamics of the Institutions We are Changing

This training session focuses on power analysis of the institutions and systems we are organizing to transform. Are we negotiating with the right person? Do they have the power and authority to make the change we are seeking? What are their interests? Who influences them and over what and whom do they have influence?

Key tools include the ladder of power, working our way up from the lowest-level officials to the decision-makers, so by the time we talk to the right people, we have a clearer understanding of the institution. We also talk about following the money, using stick figures to understand the self-interest of someone we are meeting with, and the importance of putting a name and face on a problem and on the system we are facing.
