Power – Sources of Our Influence
Where do organized communities get the power and leverage to change policies and systems? What is the source of our power? We need to apply as much, or more, energy analyzing and testing our own power as we do the institutions we are trying to change.
Power Training Session 3 – Sources of Our Power
This training discusses teams responsible for organizing a clearly defined constituency (a base) as the foundation for bottom-up social change. An organizing team enables a community or constituency to negotiate its own interests using its own power.
The training shares best practices for using an organizing process to build a strong team capable of leading a base into action.
It also discusses how organizing differs from advocacy in its approach to the relationship between people, NGO structures, and governments. And reviews key sources of leverage for organized communities, including voting and economic power.
