El Salvador: Tackling land reform, environment, and safety issues in new communities
New COFOA organizations forming in San Salvador, La Libertad and La Paz Departments are tacking local issues and building power for a national effort. This month 150 leaders from six local communities in La Paz (linked article) came together for community building and training. They are conducting a campaign to win land reform legislation and secure titles to the properties they bought from corrupt developers. In Soyopango (linked article) and the mountain community of San Juan de Opico (linked article), leaders are conducting visits throughout these communities to get access to clean water every day. In Cuidad de Arce, leaders are pressing the mayor for road repair (linked article). Clergy and leaders from across the country will gather in January to plan their future together.
