Join the PICO Delegation to Haiti August 16-23
PICO is making a difference in rural Northeast Haiti, training leaders who have started viable economic development projects – peanut, chicken and fishing co-ops. We invite you to join the delegation and meet leaders from OPODNE, Haiti’s PICO Project established by Francois Pierre-Louis three years ago. You’ll see first-hand the progress being made, including attending their leadership assembly; witnessing their work for democracy and economic opportunity; possibly joining in a service project; and learning about the history and culture of Haiti. You’ll also have free time for sightseeing, relaxing and R&R.
Haiti is the only country founded through a successful slave revolt in 1804. Since then, racist policies along with natural disasters have caused continual political and economic turmoil. The long term goal of PICO in Haiti is the empowerment of local people to affirm the traditions of democracy, integrity and dignity on which Haiti was founded.
We are asking a contribution of $1000 to participate in this delegation. Estimated cost is $650/person, including lodging, food, bottled water, and all expenses related to site visits including ground transportation, interpretation, etc. The remainder of the cost will be an investment in the PICO Haiti organization. This is a unique opportunity that will inspire and strengthen us as PICO leaders. Space is limited: if you are interested and want more information, please contact John Baumann [email protected].
