Leave a Legacy of Lasting Change

Your generosity helps people in some of the most challenging places in the world transform their lives, communities, and countries.

Over the years, we’ve been blessed by people who’ve generously contributed to our work through legacy gifts. As we plan for the long haul, we invite you to consider including Faith in Action International in your financial and estate planning.

When you include a gift to Faith in Action International in your will or trust, or through an IRA, or gift to our endowment, you create a lasting legacy that reflects your faith in a better future.

You can sustain our work in many ways in addition to one-time or monthly donations.

Ways to Make Legacy Gifts

1. Include Faith in Action International in your will or estate

Many people choose to include a gift in their will to a charitable organization like Faith in Action International. A gift through your will or trust ensures your support continues for generations.

These gifts:

  • Require no immediate donation. The gift comes to us after your lifetime.
  • Maintain your ability to change your mind at any time.
  • Are welcomed with gratitude in any amount.

You have several options:

  • Give a specific amount
  • Give a percentage of your estate
  • Give what’s left after you have provided for your loved ones

To make a gift to Faith in Action International, we hope you will consider using this language: For a bequest: I give [ __ percent of my estate, or description of asset, or ___ dollars] to Faith in Action Network-International (tax ID 94-2206497), 171 Santa Rosa Avenue, Oakland, CA 94610 for its general use to support international organizing and change. You may also make your legacy gift in honor of a loved one.

2. Include Faith in Action International as a beneficiary of your retirement account

Retirement plans can be subject to income—and sometimes estate—taxes when left to heirs other than your spouse. That’s why retirement plan funds are a popular option for making donations. If you designate Faith in Action International as a beneficiary of your retirement plan, you can do the following:

  • Designate other, less heavily taxed assets to your family.
  • You can request a change of beneficiary form from your plan provider and include Faith in Action International as a full or partial beneficiary.
  • Change your beneficiaries at any time, retaining maximum flexibility.

We are tax-exempt, so your entire gift will go to Faith in Action International. Our legal name is Faith in Action Network, EIN 94-2206497. Please let us know if you’ve included us as a beneficiary.

3. Make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your IRA

People over age 70 ½ can make tax-free donations directly from their IRAs. When you make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), you don’t pay taxes on the withdrawal. This makes QCDs a very tax-efficient way to support charities.

  • You can donate up to $100,000 annually from your IRA without paying taxes on the distributions.
  • Once you turn 73, QCDs count toward your Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs).
  • Unlike regular distributions from standard IRAs, QCDs don’t count as income, which helps lower your income subject to taxes.

Make a QCD before December 31 by instructing the company managing your IRA to distribute funds directly to Faith in Action Network-International (tax ID 94-2206497), 171 Santa Rosa Avenue, Oakland, CA 94610.

4. Contribute to our endowment

Faith in Action International has a small endowment that we started with a legacy contribution from Fr. Michael Mandala. Our endowment generates annual income to support grassroots organizing in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa, while contributing to the long-term sustainability of our work.

5. Donate stock or other assets

Faith in Action International welcomes contributions of stock and other assets. These types of gifts can offer additional tax benefits. Please contact us for transfer details.

6. Make a matching gift

Matching gifts are an important part of our end-of-year fundraising. They motivate other donors to contribute. If you’re interested in providing a matching gift, we’d be glad to talk about how it could inspire others and multiply your impact.

7. Contribute through a Donor Advised Fund

Faith in Action International accepts contributions from Donor Advised Funds. You may also designate Faith in Action International as a beneficiary of your Donor-Advised Fund. You can do this when you create your fund or update your fund succession plans.

OUR COMMITMENTS TO YOU

  • We will use your gift as you intended
  • We will respect your privacy and keep your gift anonymous if you prefer
  • We will uphold rigorous standards in our accounting and oversight
  • You may revise your plans at any time

Please let us know if you’ve included Faith in Action International in your will or estate planning.
