TANZANIA: Faith in Action leaders conduct workshop on election awareness and development challenges

For Tanzanians in rural provinces of Muleba and Ngara, upcoming national elections in October may seem distant, but could have far reaching consequences in light of a diminishing foreign investment. To raise awareness, Faith in Action Tanzanian leader-organizers, Kevin Lazaro and Pastor Samwel Oscar have been conducting organizing workshops on election awareness and development opportunities.

In Ngara, Pastor Samwel Oscar gathered forty-two evangelists and church leaders to spread the word about the need to participate in upcoming elections while listening to their community about needed development.

In Mulega, Kelvin Lazaro gathered forty-five pastors to engage them in conversations about how organizing could build a constituency for self-development, as they become increasingly aware of the Trump administration withdrawing development funds.

Rev Samwel has invited 108 church leaders to a meeting in later in the year to evaluate teaching and listening efforts and plan steps to build their organizing muscle.

The Faith in Action organizing effort in Tanzania is supported by Pr. John and Fr. Innocent through workshops in Rwanda and site visits in Muleba and Ngara along the Rwandan border.
