World Refugee Day: PICO Combats Causes of Migration

Today PICO International stands in support of our organizations seeking to address the root causes of migration from their countries. Tens of thousands of families have been uprooted from their homes in El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti and Rwanda. Each of these developing countries shares a history of colonialism followed by war, genocide, and political turmoil. US policies are responsible for environmental degradation, high levels of violence, and economic desperation driving migration.

More than 65 million people around the world have been driven from their homes. More than half are children. We are challenged to welcome refugees, but even more we must challenge policies that cause migration. PICO organizations in these countries are dedicated to creating democratic practice and economic opportunity. Support PICO International organizing work.
